Hello neighbors,American Red Cross Logo

I have received more information regarding the families impacted by the fire on Meadowview and Amherst at the Whispering Pine Apartment complex.

The Red Cross is expecting to spend approximately $45,000 on assistance for the more than sixty residents who have been displaced by the fire last Thursday morning.  The money is being spent on clothing, household goods, food and rent.  Also, medications need to be replenished as one boy with diabetes lost all of his supplies for his condition and his mother lost her prescription eyeglasses in the destruction.

For those interested in helping out, I will be collecting checks at this Thursday’s Neighborhood Association meeting and at the Community Garden celebration on Saturday.  Please write out the checks to the Sacramento Sierra Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Also, please be sure to write “Amherst Fire” in the comment section of the check so the Red Cross will know who the money is intended for.  If you prefer to donate online, secure online donations may also be made at www.sacsierraredcross.org.  The American Red Cross honors donor intent.

Also, the Antioch Progressive Church (next door to the apartment complex) is accepting food, clothing and other in-kind donations for the residents struggling to rebuild their lives.  I can accept those items on Thursday and Saturday as well, and deliver those items when I deliver the checks.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Thank you,

David
