Park Volunteers
Cyndia Castro, from City Parks and Recreation, C 916-808-2285 O 916-803-2904, discussed further our volunteer interests in Cabrillo Park. Upon selecting a leader and a date for our park clean up, the city will help arrange for the tools and materials that we may possibly need. However, plants are not readily available due to budget conditions, but, materials such as wood chips and stakes can be provided. A Parks Department employee will be present to help instruct in proper use of tools and provided initial instruction of proper pruning methods if needed.
Additionally the City requires all volunteers to complete a liability form before working on City property. The added benefit is that all volunteers are then covered by the City of Sacramento's workers compensation policy.
Cyndia would also help arrange for flyers to be distributed announcing our effort. Additional volunteers might be available from the City's list. Cyndia cited an example of a recent adoption of Reichmuth Park by the owner of 7/11 convenience store across the street.

New Business:
Membership Retention and Recruitment
Membership retention and recruitment was expressed as a major concern by both Toni Newman and Don Feliz. Don pointed out that many of our older neighbors are not receiving current events and notices do to our currently limited print schedule. Yvonne Riedlinger from the City of Sacramento Neighborhood Services Division,O 916-808-6523, mentioned a service that another Association uses that calls registered users with a recorded message that we generate to help keep our members informed. Further information to be provided.
Toni volunteered to help draft a notice to be distributed before our monthly meetings to help raise awareness. Richard Gentry will help with Toni in distributing the flyers and provide our current membership roster.
Low Water Plants
David Bain requested information from the Cyndia and Yvonne about the low water plants that the City uses in the Florin Road median and also at the 24th Street bypass park. Cyndia and Yvonee will be checking with their various contacts to help us find out what plants are used.
Shopping Carts
Don Feliz brought up for discussion stolen/wayward shopping carts. Yvonne Riedlinger mention any time that a cart is found that 311 should be called with its location as 311 will notify Code Enforcement. Code Enforcement then may cite the home owner if a shopping cart is found on their property.
From our website:
“Friday, 29 February 2008 - Ron Brasel talked with the manager at Longs Drugs about shopping carts. He wants to be a good neighbor and keep them out of our neighborhood. It will only cost him $2 each to retrieve them a good deal for him considering they cost $90 new. The best way to contact him is by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with shopping carts in the subject line and the address of where you have seen one. Hopefully this will be a more effective way to work with them in solving this problem in our neighborhood. You can also call him at 392-1004 but I believe email will be the most productive use of his and our time.”
